Nonprofit Remington College gives back

By Remington College Posted March 4, 2019

When you're looking for the right technical school for you, there are probably a few 'must-haves' on your checklist. You likely want a tech school that is accredited, conveniently located and with strong programs in your area of interest.

But one desirable trait that might not be on your list? Dedication to the community.

Remington College is a nonprofit, and giving back is at the core of our mission. We not only want to support our students in reaching their goals through job training programs, we want to improve the communities our 14 nationwide campuses are located in.

Why? Because when trade schools like ours serve the community, we strengthen the places where our students, staff and faculty live and work'and everyone wins.

Here are a few of the ways Remington College is giving back:

  1. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Last year, Remington College partnered with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society across all its campuses. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease in which the body's immune system is directed against the central nervous system, damaging the myelin that surrounds nerve fibers. The college is helping to promote awareness of the debilitating disease through fundraising events and volunteering opportunities for staff, faculty and students, such as at Bike MS and Walk MS. As of February 2019, Remington College has raised nearly $6,000.

  1. Blood drives

Many of Remington College's campuses support local patients with blood disorders through 3 Lives Blood Drives. Though all are invited to donate, many of these drives specifically call minority donors to give blood and raise awareness of blood disorders, such as sickle cell.' As of January 2019, Remington College has collected more than 13,900 pints of blood. Since one pint of blood can save three lives, that's enough blood to save more than 41,000 lives.

  1. Cuts for Kids

The back-to-school season can be a tough time for any parent. Between buying school supplies and new clothes, making room in the budget for a haircut sometimes isn't possible. To help alleviate stress and to give students valuable practice, Remington College campuses offering a cosmetology program provide free haircuts for children each year during Cuts for Kids. This program has provided more than 17,000 free back-to-school haircuts over the past 10 years.

  1. Prom Night Makeovers

Prom is a night most high schoolers look forward to all year long, but prepping for the big day often comes with big cost. To help out the families of high schoolers and create practice opportunities for its students, Remington College's cosmetology programs offer free Prom Night Makeovers. Students can get free haircuts, up-dos, manicures, pedicures and makeup services to make their dance special and more affordable.

  1. Free or discounted dental services

Since it opened in 2010, the Remington College Dental Hygiene Program has provided more than 37,000 low or no cost dental services to Nashville area residents. This has given the community access to affordable dental care and hands-on experience to students enrolled in the dental hygiene program.

If you're considering enrolling in a career training program, consider a school that will connect you to your community and provide excellent hands-on practice. To learn more about Remington College and trade school careers, visit http://cav3.svztur.com/ or call 1-800-208-1950.
